COACHING CAREER: Dave Magadan was named Colorado's hitting coach on Dec. 12, 2018 ... Spent the previous three seasons as the hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2016-18) ... In 2017, helped lead the D-backs to a single-season franchise record 220 home runs … that season, Arizona's offense finished in the top five in the National League in runs (812, 4th), hits (1,405, 5th), doubles (314, 1st), triples (39, 1st), home runs (220, 5th) and slugging percentage (.445, 2nd) ... Also served as the hitting coach with San Diego (2003-06), Boston (2007-12) and Texas (2013-15) ... In his career as a hitting coach his team has led the league in: runs (2011 Red Sox, 875), hits (2011 Red Sox, 1600), doubles (2007 Red Sox, 352; 2010 Red Sox, 358; 2011 Red Sox, 352; 2012 Red Sox, 339; 2017 D-backs, 314), triples (2005 Padres, 39; 2016 D-backs, 56; 2017 D-backs, 39), walks (2007 Red Sox, 689; 2008 Red Sox, 646), on-base percentage (2008 Red Sox, .358; 2011 Red Sox, .349) and slugging percentage (2011 Red Sox, .461)... Was a member of the coaching staff for the 2007 World Champion Red Sox.

PLAYING CAREER: Magadan was selected by the New York Mets in the second round of the 1983 First-Year Player draft ... Played 16 seasons for the Mets (1986-92), Marlins (1993-94), Mariners (1993), Astros (1995), Cubs (1996), A's (1997-98) and Padres (1999-2001) … over his career, batted .288 with 42 home runs and 495 RBI in 1,582 games.

PERSONAL: David Joseph Magadan … he and his wife Monique reside in Palm Harbor, Fla. during the offseason … they have four children: Jordan, Christian, Peyton and Avery ... Magadan is a cousin and godson to former Major League manager, Lou Piniella ... A graduate of Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla. … went on to attend the University of Alabama where he was a three-time All-SEC selection ... Inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Alabama's Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
