Hawpe out again, but DL seems unlikely

ANAHEIM -- Right fielder Brad Hawpe was out of the starting lineup for a second straight day on Sunday with bruised ribs he suffered on Friday when he ran into the wall in foul ground attempting to catch a pop fly.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy said Hawpe was potentially available as a pinch-hitter for Sunday's game, but it depended on how he felt after doing his early workouts with trainer Keith Duggar.

"Brad Hawpe is going to do some exercises and see how far we get from the standpoint of swing capability, so I don't have the definitive answer as to whether he can take an at-bat today or not," Tracy said.

Tracy, though, said a trip to the disabled list for Hawpe is unlikely unless things change when he starts swinging.

"We don't really want to go too long at all," Tracy said. "If this is something that's going to linger, which I don't think it is, I just think he needs another day or so, because he felt much better when he came in yesterday."
