Bowie placed on 15-day disabled list

Lefty Bowie placed on 15-day DL

DENVER -- Rockies left-handed reliever Micah Bowie has been dealing with forearm pain after each of his outings, and Tuesday it became bad enough for the club to place him on the 15-day disabled list.

Lefty prospect Josh Newman was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs and was expected to be ready for Tuesday night's game against the Phillies at Coors Field.

"This was something that kind of got away from me a little bit too much, and I need a little bit of time off," Bowie said. "It hurts me after I throw -- the next day. It's just gotten a little bit worse. It's something I've never had trouble with before."

Bowie (0-1, 9.00 ERA) last appeared in Monday night's 9-5 loss to the Phillies. He gave up three runs and three hits in the ninth inning.

Newman, 24, a 19th-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, had a 4.50 ERA in two Major League appearances last season. He nearly made the team with a strong Spring Training and has a 3.50 ERA in five appearances at Colorado Springs.
