Rockies finalize two-year deal with Hernandez
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced on Monday that the club has agreed to a two-year contract with catcher Ramon Hernandez after he passed a physical examination by the Rockies' medical staff. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.

Hernandez, 35, will join Colorado after playing the last three seasons in Cincinnati. Hernandez hit .282 (84-for-298) with 12 home runs, 13 doubles and 36 RBIs in 91 games for the Reds in 2011.

Across 13 Major League seasons, the Caracas, Venezuela, native has played at least 81 games in all but his rookie season and has played at least 100 games in eight of those 13 seasons. The right-handed hitter has a career average of .266 (1,295-for-4,873) with 161 home runs, 723 RBIs, 250 doubles and 560 runs scored. Over the last three seasons, Hernandez has combined to hit .280 (251-for-898) with 24 home runs, 121 RBIs, 44 doubles and 85 walks. The 2003 All-Star also has a career .990 fielding percentage in 1,298 career games behind the plate.

The Rockies will be Hernandez's fifth Major League club after having spent time with Oakland (1999-2003), San Diego ('04-05), Baltimore ('06-08) and Cincinnati ('09-11). Hernandez was originally signed by Oakland on Feb. 18, 1994, as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela.

The Rockies now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
