Rockies reinstate LHP Jorge De La Rosa from 60-day DL

|

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has reinstated left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa from the 60-day disabled list (tear in ulnar collateral ligament in left arm). To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rockies have also transferred left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich to the 60-day disabled list (stress fracture in lower back). De La Rosa (#29) will start today’s game at San Francisco (1:45 pm MT).

De La Rosa, 31, will be making his first appearance since May 24, 2011 when he exited with left elbow soreness. The left-hander missed 263 games while on the disabled list, as the Rockies went 107-156 in those 263. De La Rosa joined the Rockies in 2008 and since then has a record of 39-26 with a 4.38 ERA (495.2 ip, 241 er), 486 strikeouts and 222 walks in 91 appearances, 85 starts. The Monterrey, Mexico native has a career record of 54-49 with a 4.90 ERA (769.2 ip, 419 er), 682 strikeouts and 381 walks while holding opponents to a .263 average in 188 appearances, 126 starts in parts of eight seasons with Milwaukee (2004-06), Kansas City (2006-07) and Colorado (2008-11).

Friedrich, 25, went 5-8 with a 6.17 ERA (84.2 ip, 58 er), 30 walks and 74 strikeouts in 16 starts for the Rockies during what is his first season in the Major Leagues. Friedrich’s 74 strikeouts led all Rockies pitchers prior to being placed on the 15-day disabled list July 29 with a stress fracture in his lower back. The left-hander began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he went 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA (30.0 ip, 10 er), four walks, 27 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .213 in five starts for the Sky Sox. Friedrich, who was rated the Rockies 13th-best prospect entering 2012 by Baseball America, was originally selected in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by Colorado out of Eastern Kentucky University.

The Rockies have 40 players on the 40-man roster.
