Rockies avoid arbitration by agreeing to one-year deal with Tyler Colvin

|

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract with outfielder Tyler Colvin. Terms of the deals were not disclosed, per club policy.

Colvin, 27, was acquired by Colorado on December 8, 2011 from the Chicago Cubs along with DJ LeMahieu in exchange for Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers. He spent the entire season on the Rockies active roster in 2012 and hit .290 (122-for-420) with 27 doubles, 10 triples, 18 home runs and 72 RBI in 136 games. Colvin set career-high marks in games, at bats, hits, doubles, triples, RBI and batting average in 2012. In 357 career Major League games with Colorado (2012) and the Cubs (2009-11), Colvin is a career .247 (247-for-1001) hitter with 53 doubles, 18 triples, 44 home runs and 150 RBI. The versatile player saw playing time at all three outfield positions as well as first base in 2012.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
