LOS ANGELES -- Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who sprained his right middle finger Sunday against the D-backs, withdrew from the 2013 Chevrolet Home Run Derby on Thursday.

"I love to compete, I would love to represent the Rockies in the Home Run Derby and be there on the big stage, but my finger is not feeling 100 percent," Gonzalez said. "I think what's most important right now is my health and being in the Rockies lineup every day."

Gonzalez, an All-Star for the second time in his career, is hitting .302 and leads the National League with 24 home runs.

"I will be playing in the All-Star Game, but it's not comfortable when you have to hit in BP and swing 100 percent all the time," Gonzalez said.

NL captain David Wright selected Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez to replace Gonzalez. Wright and Alvarez will join Bryce Harper and Michael Cuddyer on the NL Derby team.

The 2013 Home Run Derby will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 6 p.m. MT on Monday. In Canada, the Derby will be televised by Rogers Sportsnet.
