Blackmon powers way to NL Player of Week Award

Charlie Blackmon's torrid week at the plate earned the Rockies outfielder National League Player of the Week honors.

Blackmon was given his first career weekly honor after leading the Majors in hits (18) and total bases (26) last week. He hit a Major League-high tying .500 (18-for-36) with five doubles and five RBIs. Blackmon also slugged .722 and got on base at a .500 clip.

Blackmon produced a four-hit game on Thursday and also was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a matchup against the Cardinals. He closed the week with consecutive three-hit games against the D-backs on Saturday and Sunday.

The 27-year-old also doubled in five straight games, tying a franchise record last accomplished in 2004 by Todd Helton.

Rockies left fielder Charlie Culberson also was a finalist for the award after hitting .478 with a .520 on-base percentage and five runs scored.
