Rockies place INF Josh Rutledge on 15-day DL


DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed infielder Josh Rutledge on the 15-day disabled list with a viral infection (retroactive to April 28). In addition, the club has recalled infielder Ryan Wheeler from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Wheeler (#4) will be available for the Rockies against the Mets at Coors Field tonight (6:40 p.m. MDT).
Rutledge, 25, began the year with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he hit .389 (7-for-18) with a double, a home run, 4 RBI and 2 runs in 5 games before being recalled on April 9. In 11 games this year for Colorado, he has hit .318 (7-for-22) with a double, home run, 4 RBI and 3 runs. Last season, he began the year on the Rockies Opening Day roster as the starting second baseman and spent the majority of the year in the Majors. In 172 career games with the Rockies, the Birmingham native has hit .257 (150-for-584) with 27 doubles, 6 triples, 16 home runs, 60 RBI and 85 runs.
Wheeler, 25, has played in 24 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs this year, hitting .247 (24-for-97) with 6 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 RBI and 10 runs. Over his last five games, he has gone 8-for-23 (.358) with a double, 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 6 runs. In 2013, Wheeler spent majority of the year with Colorado Springs but saw action in 28 games with the Rockies over three stints. In 78 Major League games, he has hit .233 (35-for-150) with 8 doubles, a triple, a home run, 17 RBI and 12 runs.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
