Rox draft former Weiss-coached infielder in Round 6

DENVER -- The Rockies will select older players than infielder Max George, their sixth-round choice in the MLB First-Year Player Draft on Friday afternoon. But when it comes to what it's like to play for Rockies manager Walt Weiss, George is a veteran.

George, 18, was the Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year this past season at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo. That happened to be where Weiss was coaching when the Rockies hired him before last season.

George, who has committed to Oregon State, has more than a working relationship with the Major League manager. This spring, George batted .458 with three home runs, 14 extra-base hits, 24 RBIs and a 1.356 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage).

The 6-foot, 175-pound George is a two-time All-State selection.

The Draft concludes on Saturday, with exclusive coverage of Rounds 11-40 beginning on MLB.com at 11 a.m. MT.
