The Rockies are traditionally among the most active teams on the international market, and this year was not any different.

On Wednesday, the club signed a pair of shortstops, adding Pedro Gonzalez, ranked No. 12 on MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects list, for $1.3 million, and Yeremy Rosario, ranked No. 22, for $800,000, according to an industry source. Gonzalez's deal includes an additional $100,000 for school. The club did not confirm the signings.

There are some scouts who believe Gonzalez is a top-of-the-line player and should be considered among the best players in the class. There are others who worry about his inconsistent play and wonder if he will ever reach his potential.

Here's what we know: Gonzalez is tall and lean, and he's growing. He's listed as a shortstop and is projected to stay on the left side of the infield because of his defensive abilities and future arm strength. He could be a third baseman in the future.

Gonzalez is expected to improve with instruction once he enters a team's academy, but he has already displayed a good swing path and gap power. Based in Santo Domingo, Gonzalez is trained by Amaurys Nina.

Rosario could be the best shortstop available in this year's class because of his talents on defense. He's also viewed as a plus runner with a loose swing. Rosario has the ability to become a decent hitter in the future, using a middle- to opposite-field approach at the plate.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team is allotted a $700,000 base and a bonus pool based on the team's record in 2013 for the international signing period, which started Wednesday. Colorado's bonus pool total for this year's signing period is $3,026,700.
