Rox owner Monfort apologizes, reaches out to fan

DENVER -- Rockies owner, chairman and CEO Dick Monfort apologized on Wednesday for a curt response to a disgruntled fan and sent that fan a phone number and an invitation to talk. The apology was in reaction to the exchange going viral.

Mike Ferguson of Grand Junction, Colo., brought his family of five to Coors Field to watch the Rockies play the Dodgers on July 4 -- an eventual 9-0 defeat. Afterward, Ferguson expressed his displeasure with the Rockies on a feedback forum provided by the club.

Two days later, Ferguson received an email: "If product and experience that bad don't come!" It was signed by Monfort, with his titles.

"That was quite a shock. I never expected that," Ferguson told KREX-TV in Grand Junction in a story posted on the station's website. "I figured it was just a bunch of people sitting around reading it. I might get an automated response or anything, but to get something like that, short and simple like that, it's like wow ... almost feels like they don't care about the fans."

The Rockies announced on Thursday afternoon that they apologized on Wednesday and said they had not heard back from Ferguson.
