Rockies lose challenge in 10th, but win game

CHICAGO -- The Rockies made an instant replay challenge in the top of the 10th inning, hoping for a reversal that would have given them a three-run cushion against the Cubs on Wednesday night.

But replay upheld home-plate umpire Will Little's call that Michael McKenry was out at home plate. Two runs proved enough, as the Rockies held on for a 6-4 victory in 10 innings.

The Rockies had scored twice in the 10th when Charlie Culberson grounded to Cubs second baseman Arismendy Alcantara with two on and one out. McKenry slid to the outside and tried to reach the plate with his hand, but was tagged by Cubs catcher John Baker. Little emphatically signaled that McKenry was touched on the chest before he touched the plate.

Manager Walt Weiss challenged, but the call stood and Baker was ruled to have not blocked the plate illegally. Weiss is 12-for-29 on instant replay challenges this season.
