Left-hander Kyle Freeland and second baseman Forrest Wall, the Rockies' first two picks in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, both achieved significant firsts in their professional careers Thursday with Rookie-level Grand Junction. Freeland earned his first win and Wall hit his first home run, as the duo helped lead Grand Junction to an 8-5 victory against Idaho Falls.

Freeland, the Rockies' No. 4 prospect, started the game and threw five scoreless innings. He struck out five batters and held the Chukars to three hits and one walk.

Wall, the Rockies' No. 9 prospect, went 2-for-3 with three runs, two walks, a stolen base and an RBI. His home run came off Eric Skoglund, the Royals' third-round pick this year.

Both Freeland and Wall have made smooth transitions to the professional ranks. Freeland, ranked No. 75 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, signed quickly after the Rockies selected him eighth overall last month. In five starts with Grand Junction, he has allowed just four runs (three earned) and struck out 15 batters in 17 1/3 innings.

The Rockies picked Wall with the first pick of Competitive Balance Round A, 35th overall. In 16 games with Grand Junction, the 18-year old is hitting .362/.443/.464 with seven stolen bases.
