DETROIT -- The Tigers honored Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez before Saturday's game in an on-field ceremony.

The fans at Comerica Park cheered loudly for the 14-time All-Star, especially when he opted to throw a rocket to second base from behind home plate in lieu of a traditional first pitch.

But perhaps nobody at Comerica Park was happier to see the legendary catcher than Colorado backstop Wilin Rosario. According to Rockies manager Walt Weiss, Rodriguez was Rosario's hero growing up.

Weiss introduced his catcher to Rodriguez before Saturday's game. Rodriguez gave Rosario advice on big league life and catching.

Weiss estimated that their chat lasted only between 5-10 minutes. But, he said, "I don't think Wilin will ever forget it."
