SAN DIEGO -- The Rockies wanted to make sure Padres prospect Rymer Liriano didn't pull a fast one in just his second Major League plate appearance. But replay determined a fourth-inning call that Liriano was hit by a pitch Monday night at Petco Park would stand.

Rockies starter Jordan Lyles hit Liriano with a 1-1 pitch with two out and a runner on base.

The challenge by manager Walt Weiss could have been simply to give Lyles a short break.

Lyles gave up Yonder Alonso's one-out solo home run and consecutive doubles to Jedd Gyorko and Yasmani Grandal during the inning. He trailed, 1-0, and the Rockies prevented another run when center fielder Drew Stubbs and second baseman DJ LeMahieu made pinpoint throws to erase Gyorko at the plate on Gallardo's double off the center-field wall.

After the brief replay review, Lyles ended the inning by forcing Alexi Amarista to ground out.
